…a big deal in terms of the size of the project, and the coolness of this lab, anyway! Please excuse my terrible phone pics, they do not do any of this stuff justice. The photo above shows students working in the Startup Labs. Below is a flyer I designed today to explain the concept of Startup Labs here at ASU Polytechnic.

Cool, no? Well now I will show you the initial concepts I came up with to “deck the halls” as it were, and then the beautiful results after endless labor on the part of my coworkers here at the ASU Print and Imaging Lab.

Illustrator sketch for main hallway.

Cooool….. : )

Those kids are now famous. Also, they probably graduated a few years ago and have NO idea of how famous they will now be. So sad.

Whiteboard outside of the lab. Whiteboard design and sea creature illustrations all courtesy of yours truly.

Below are the designs for inside the big room of the lab itself. I designed the panels which were to go between interior windows for a more open feel (existing architecture).

And here is a photo of most of the team from ASU Print and Imaging Lab, sitting proudly beneath our work at the Startup Labs open house. Yay! Such a good feeling. (I am the one wearing the scarf; photo credit Professor Penny Ann Dolin.)

So yep.

Aaaaanndd, it is a cute post. Go check it, kids.

Well this is not my typical post, for the moment it is strictly my own work but… I found this great resource I had to share while cleaning out my computer! It is apparently a spread that I found in some awesome internet design magazine. I sadly cannot find the link… this is from the dark ages before I had my Pinterest. How did I live. However, I think that if you look up any of these nice typefaces (CLICK to see larger), you could find some good things : )

Ha. Well, this was from my old “advanced computer illustration class”… the cartooney old guys are characters from a story I wrote in high school. The only comment I remember getting on it was “I like how all of the people in the front are redheads.” haahaaaa….. I am cleaning out my computer so you will have to bear with me.

Well, this is an exciting post for me! I am honored to be included in a project that I think is very special. A mechanical engineering student at my school, Peter Seymour of Seymour Enterprises is designing a heart monitor that connects to an App on your smartphone; this is part of an effort to combat Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS. Seymour tragically lost his infant daughter, Eleanore, to SIDS last year, and has since been developing the monitor (named for her) to prevent this for others. When fully developed, the monitor should be around the size of a postage stamp, and you could check on your child using your smartphone or tablet! This is designed to be very affordable; $20-$50, and widely accessible. Isn’t that just incredible?

The top image is a preliminary design that I have created for the App; below is a prototype of the monitor in its current stage.

I really can’t believe it… I have finally opened an Etsy shop! After two weeks of dreaming, sketching, photographing old jewelry, looking at Art Deco art, researching the market, designing and trying to convince my laptop not to crash… I have a complete set of vintage blog makeovers and scrapbooking papers as part of my “1939″ Art Deco brand. These are available in three color schemes (Dove, Lobster, & Jade)on my Etsy, Mink Paperie!

These sets give you everything you need to pretty up that free blog of yours; including very detailed instructions that were a real pain to write but VERY worthwhile ; )

Oh, and I am getting good use out of my stuff… Mink Photography got a makeover, and my computer’s desktop is looking super cute and vintage with the seamless backgrounds!!

Let me know what you think in the comments, I always love hearing back!

So these past couple of weeks I have been hard at work preparing to open my first Etsy shop! The product I am showing above is one of my vintage-themed blog makeovers; it is part of the Art Deco inspired “1939″ set. The sets include a variety of seamless hand-drawn backgrounds, cute buttons with links to networks such as Facebook and Pinterest, as well as a fully adjustable header waiting for you to type in your blog name (Photoshop and PNG files included.) Also included are step-by-step instructions and suggestions!

This is great for those who use a free online blog, and want to give it a vintage facelift easily and inexpensively.

There also will be other themes, products, and time eras on my Etsy, so heads up! ; ) I hope to be up & running in a week or two.
